Our final look in the Spring hopes Eternal series! I am absolutely aghast at how beautifully this came out– it’s really lovely to know that I can sit down, make some headbands, a hat, a collar, and a bow tie, and call each of my friends up to get their unique talents happening to create a solid aesthetic reality. I truly felt like I was working with my Dream Team. While I definitely had concrete ideas about each element, it was their amazing expertise that made the reality twice as brilliant as what was in my head. I mean, really. Tanya used hand-dyed extensions and got creative with a faux-fringe. So, so chic and fun! And I loved the space-moth look that Danie did. You really can’t go wrong with lilac makeup for early Summer. It kills! It should be mentioned that Ali is not technically a model– although you’d never know it from this shoot! She actually did the makeup for my wedding, and is a family friend of Ben’s. Ali also runs her own style website. The girl radiates magic… but that’s obvious! Alex is my whip-smart, uber-inspirational writer– I hit her last minute with this idea and […]
Part III in our series: Spring hopes Eternal: I think I mentioned this before, but this Spring hopes Eternal shoot was the first I formally styled and art directed on. Styling was loads of fun. I started out with the custom made headbands and collar (more on those in a seperate post!) and built the outfits around them. This outfit was definitely the most lighthearted of the bunch! Ali is sporting my mother’s dress from when she was 14– I loved the eyelet bell 3/4 sleeves and the matching hem. I remember Mom saying that it was one of her first dresses from a department store. Before that, all of her clothing was hand sewn. And that belt…oh, that belt! I found it ages ago at a thrift store, and even though it didn’t fit me at my smallest weight, I kept it around. It is glorious! I wish I had a tiny Gloria in my life to give it a home. All of the shoes in this shoot were found at vintage stores. I jazzed them up; adding glitter and painting them…basically going nuts! Now, I wanna do this with all of my shoes. These orange booties could work […]
Here’s the second part of our shoot, “Spring hopes Eternal”. Photographed by: Jennifer Emerling Hair by: Tanya Ramirez Make Up by: Danie Cansino Styled by: Aurora Lady Words by: Alexandra Franzen Model: Alexandra Stayer I especially loved the second look: my mother made the dress for me when I was in seventh grade! Seeing Ali dressed up in it, & combined with my headbands, made me so happy and made me feel connected again to my mother. I’m pretty sure she would have loved the finished product!
A fashion story, told in three parts. Part I: Photographed by: Jennifer Emerling Hair by: Tanya Ramirez Make Up by: Danie Cansino Styled by: Aurora Lady Words by: Alexandra Franzen Model: Alexandra Stayer *** I took my time creating a set of headbands, and, after wearing one out, I knew I needed to pull together a team and do a photo story. It fell upon me like a fog I couldn’t get out of (really, it was all I could think about!), and I set forth, collecting and selecting my Dream Team to make my vision a reality. I ended up with the best of the best: women who really understood what the concept was, how to execute, and how to make magic! I’ll definitely look upon this shoot as a sort of crossroads for me creatively; it was my first time formally art directing and styling. What a blast! This is Part I; I’ll be releasing separate headband looks over the course of a few weeks. xoxo
