Once upon a time, I used to interview bands, stay up late with glue sticks and ink pens, and read anything my friends could put in my hot little hands. I made zines like a madwoman! I loved it, but times changed and the internet rolled around– I became immersed in blogging.
The tide has turned though, yet again. When I hit up the L.A. Zine Fest earlier this year, I felt my 15 year old self come back. I remembered the smell of the ink, the way I’d end up with smudgefIlled inkprints on everything. I started talking to and interviewing more people who made zines.
And what do you know? Now I’m back in it.
This morning, I started on my first zine in almost ten years. I feel totally inspired! I signed up on 24 Hour Zine Thing so that I would have some momentum and support behind me (the first image of this post is of my registration!). This morning, I laid out all of my supplies– watercolor paper, pencils, notes, ink, and gesso, and got started prepping.
This already feels so good.
I’m encouraging you to do the same. Sign up for 24 Hour Zine Thing, and challenge yourself! I can’t wait to see what others come up with.
