Movie Time: Heavenly Creatures

I finally watched “Heavenly Creatures” last week– thank goodness for Netflix Instant. I’d heard about the movie over and over again, but it took THIS LONG to get to it. I haven’t been able to get my mind off from the story; the visuals are gorgeous, the tale is beautiful and horrifying all at once. I remember intensely what it was like to be intoxicated by adoration and love for my friends, and while it never went to this extreme for me, the movie does a great job of encapsulating that feeling.

Have you seen anything that I should check out? Some other favorites right now: Fiona Apple’s “The Ider Wheel…” (on vinyl, of course!), the Mission Inn’s mysterious nooks and crannies in Riverside, my new Singer sewing machine, using recipes with chickpeas–chickchickchick!!!–and framing art for the house.

What is inspiring you right this very moment?

  1. I watched Heavenly Creatures for the first time earlier this year and really had the same reaction. I loved it and will probably watch it again. But back to your question if you’ve got netflix instant check out “Janie Jones,” its not about the Clash and I watched it on vacation and adored it. I’m sure living in LA you’ve already heard Metric’s new song Youth Without Youth but if you haven’t go listen to that I think you’ll like it.

    • Looooove Metric! I’m excited about the new album. Will check out Janie Jones. Thanks!

  2. I haven’t seen that one yet, but I have Netflix so I will make sure to queue it up! :)

  3. You need to see ‘Man on Wire’.

    • Just added it to my queue. Thanks, Tanya!
