My friend, Augusta Gail, is one of my favorite people. She’s endlessly positive, big on adventuring, and really funny (I know, everyone’s friends are REALLY funny! But Augusta really is. Her brain is on fire and she’s constantly coming up with new words to describe things. I’m not even sure she aware she’s done it til it comes out of her mouth! The BEST!). When she told me she was looking for her perfect wedding dress and was having trouble, my brain went straight into DIY mode. While making her dream dress is probably too much for us to take on ourselves, we thought it would help to create a shoot that captured the vibe she was going for.
So on a unseasonably warm January morning, she came over and brought all of her lacy, see-through, pink, and white-ish clothing. I did her makeup like a pink-flower dappled fawn (a look I’m OBSESSED with giving all of my friends– hit me up and I’ll stick flowers all over your face!) and we guzzled down coffee. We shot in our friend Jenn‘s bedroom, and then went to my studio. We rounded out the day by running around a cactus garden in Pasadena while random folks walked around.
I love the way these photos came out. Augusta and I both love the Dangerous Angels series by Francesca Lia Block, and we joked that this was very much “Weetzie Bat Wedding Vibes”. MY FAVORITE! I’m not a photographer, so my skills are limited. But I love taking photos of my friends and helping them get to where they want to be, even if it’s just with an idea. We had a lot of fun pulling this off in an afternoon. I hope that maybe it will inspire you to get together with your own friends on the fly and experiment with what you have lying around and the spaces you are already surrounded with.
